Susan,
I recommend getting official "Croc" brand crocs. There is a little crocodile image on the outside of the strap indicating the brand. There are lots of knock-offs available, but I doubt the strap would hold for long if wearing for long periods of time under the stress of long-term wear--cheaper fasteners and joints may break. The Croc brand is available for $25.00 at most dedicated shoe stores in any mall. I have them in Navy to match my blue jeans. I expect them to last for years with heavy use.
I have a nice pair of hiking sneakers which do not cause my triple WWW feet any trouble at all when backpacking, and expect to take my crocs as a light-weight camp/backup shoe to Phil in '09.
I find the positive vs neg. feedback for crocs very interesting indeed. Personally, I do think they are here to stay for all "walks" of life. ;D (pun intended). I find my crocs lightweight (extremely), supportive (great molded footbed for the arch), breathable (for hot swollen sweaty feet's sake), easily washable, comfortable, with a firm rubber grip and really easy to get on and off. All positive attributes for a camp shoe.

I'm sorry Susan, but encourage the crew to make their own decision. I wouldn't take crocs with me to Philmont for anything. Others on the list think crocs are God's gift to camp footwear.
Any further discussion about this topic is futile.
Again, my apologies.

I am hearing conflicting info about crocs. My husband and two sons are going to Philmont next week and at the last meeting, a couple of the boys who ahd gone said crocs were not a good choice. I know there was a discussion about crocs, but I can't remember what the outcome was?
All suggestions are appreciated!
