I've driven an RV from Ohio to Philmont three times in 89, 93 and 97. We had four drivers each time and took the entire crew out in it. Without looking at a tour permit, I'm pretty sure there are standards that must be met such as seat belts for every passenger and limited miles traveled each day among others. Even with the price of gas today it is still probably cheaper to drive if you have the time. You get to see some things along the way depending on where you are from. The boys seemed to get an appreciation of distance during the several day drive from Ohio. When you fly, it is breakfast at home and supper at Philmont and they wonder if they really are the whole way across the country. My crews have flown, rode the train and rode in the RV. I still recall the the RV trips as some of the most memorable.
