Scott
Hi there.
I did trek 28 last summer, you WILL enjoy it! We did do some side treks to
Publano and over the Mesa. Both very worth while!
Rope is to hang the bear bags. We have to fly into Denver and so we used the
ranch's. I see no reason not to.
Bear bags I agree with the other responses - I would use the ranches but I
would mark mine with a piece of duct tape to ID them. More is better than less.
They weight almost nothing and I know we got a four day food supply at least
twice and that is a lot of food to put up in the bags. I couple extras will
not hurt. We kept one clean and used it to lay out the food and utensils on
as we made dinner. Thought of it as a table cloth.
Bugs we went out in August and I don't remember tem being a problem.
Water filters- I think everyone does this different. We use Sweet water
purifiers. We do not use the micro pure tablets they supply we because we like to
have clear water not just purified water. Our sister crew used the micro pure
tablets and had no problems. We actually carried three filters. Some would
argue a lot of weigh that is unnecessary but we feel the need to drink is so
important that we are willing to carry weigh. I have to say that I did trek 32
the year before and the taste of the water was so bad I dehydrated. It is a
bad thing to have happen on the trail. So clean clear water is important we
carry the weight.
Trowel YOU NEED ONE! LOL believe me you need one and it needs to be
accessible!
Enjoy! Any questions about trek 28 feel free to get in touch with me.
