Interesting that no one has commented on one of the larger missions of
Scouting. Be Prepared.
We are teaching boys how to enjoy high adventure for a life time, not just
PhilTime.
Take a water filter and the MicroPur.....use both.
If you use both you have taught the boys how to survive under any conditions
world wide.
Ask anyone who has had giardia how great the water was using just the
MicroPur. It will not kill the cysts.
As a corollary, the filter doesn't remove all pathogens, particularly viral
nasties.
Best water we had in 2006 was at Iris Park. It was from a solar pumped
cistern, and yes we treated with both filter and tablets. Boys enjoyed purifying
the water. It was team based.
The Valle Vidal is a special treat. We had no sister crew and the memories
are very unique. Enjoy it!
Went to an Eagle Court of Honor this past weekend for one of the crew
members. That makes us 11 Eagles and 1 Life in crew 617-K3. These kids are
special and hopefully we have prepared them to not just survive in the wilderness,
but to be future leaders in the Scouting program and teach others the joys of
high adventure.
