[philmont] Backpacking Camera ?

Definitely agree with others on the Energizer Lithiums.  They last forever. I took a Casio Exilim camera last year, w/ proprietary battery.  Wished I had a AA camera, though the pocketability of the Casio was great.  Unfortunately, the durability of that camera isn't great for a backpacking troop.  Now have an Olympus 770SW camera that really takes a beating (waterproof, shockproof, sand/dust proof, etc).  Headed to Sea Base tomorrow to scuba dive with it!  Shane -- will look forward to your trip/camera report on the SX-1000.  I love cameras with large optical lenses, but tend to sacrifice that for portability, especially when backpacking. --Bret ----- Original Message ---- From: Shane mycales@tx.rr.com I'm probably going to by the Canon SX-1000 IS (10X optical lens) before we leave for Philmont this weekend.  I currently have a Canon A720IS which is also a great choice (8x optical lens).  Both use AA batteries instead of a battery pack. I'd suggest nothing other than Energizer Lithium AA batteries.  Half the weight, four times the power of alkalines. Shane (from work) p.s. - look at a MountainSmith camera bag for the camera - I don't remember the model right now, but they have one that fits my camera that can be either carried on a belt or on the sholderstraps of my pack.  Great little camera bag.
