[philmont] Backpacking Camera ?

Solar chargers at the ranch are a bad idea in my opinion.

In 2004 we didn't see the sun for 8 of the 10 days we were on the trail, in
2006 it was better but our routes in the south were shady.

In 2005 I used one at Jamboree, different story - it lived on the roof of
our tent and worked great.

It just isn't a reliable option for the once in a lifetime experience PSR
represents for most.

I agree that lithiums are hard to beat for a relatively short trip (< 2wk),
especially when you look at power to weight ratio. However, if you have
several devices (headlamps, cameras, GPS, two-way radios) or have a group of
people all using AAs, a solar charger can be really handy.

See:
http://www.siliconsolar.com/travel-solar-battery-chargers.html

They have thin film solar chargers that are fast charging and incredibly
lightweight.
