Ask when you get your food if you don't get something by then for a pound cake. You might get one & you might not. When you get restocked on food ask there also. Even if you just stop along the way and get a plastic can of icing and vanilla wafers or cookies that will be a real treat when you are on the trail.

O Keepers of the Collective Wisdom,
One of my scouts will turn 16 on the day we depart from Philmont for our 4 PM flight out of Denver. Her parents have asked about obtaining a birthday cake for her en route or at the Denver Airport. I suggested we might celebrate early at Philmont before the campfire.
Does anyone know if they sell cakes the Philmont snack bar? How difficult would it be to get one from town? Or, can you suggest a place at the Denver airport that her parents might pre-order a cake?
We have another scout celebrating her birthday on trail and I will be carrying my trusty bakepacker and cake mix and peanut butter M & Ms (or Reese's Pieces) to make her a cake on the trail, but once back in base camp, am not sure anyone will want to fire up the camp stoves. Thoughts?
I have fond memories of celebrating my 52 birthday on trail. The crew had talked the commissary at Baldy Town out of some frosted oatmeal cookies that my crew chief had carried hidden for 3 days and the rest of the crew proudly presented me with the last two jalapeno cheese squeezers. What a celebration!
Thanks in advance,
Denise Vowell
