[philmont] Interesting E-mail From Philmont

I can only speak of my 2005 Philmont experience and my 2007 Double H experience, with the same guidelines.

When I got there, my physical form showed me to be within weight limits (I was at the time of the physical). I was close to the max, and was worried.

At Double H in 07, they did not weight me or ask me any questions about my weight.

At Philmont in 05, they asked me if there had been any change in my weight, and I told them not really. They did not weigh me.

They DID check BP, and in both cases I was high and had to wait a few minutes for a re-check, which I passed (I have white coat syndrome, if you've ever heard of that, which means that my BP goes up just before it's checked....).

I can't and won't say they don't weigh you, I can only tell you what happened to me.

How close is the scale they have at home, or at their doctor’s office or fitness center, to the one Philmont uses? I know from experience that the one in my doctor’s office is “heavy” compared to my home scale. Two offices in the same clinic have scales that give very different weights for the same person. The staff argues, probably rightly so, that they are more interested in relative changes, rather than absolute weight. So, how far below your upper limit for your height should you be to be sure you’ll be allowed to participate? I’m in the middle of the recommended range, so I’m not worried, but others will, or should, be.
